New England RHEC Application for Membership

The New England Regional Health Equity Council (RHEC) is one of ten regional health equity councils in the U.S. formed in 2011 as part of the National Partnership for Action to End Health Disparities (NPA), which is the first national multi-sector community and partnership-driven effort on behalf of health equity, and was spearheaded by the federal Office of Minority Health (OMH). With input from communities, organizations and practitioners, the NPA created the National Stakeholder Strategy for Achieving Health Equity. The NPA Stakeholder strategic action plan includes the formation of the Regional Health Equity Councils with members who serve as leaders and catalysts to improve health equity. The ten regional councils focus on strengthening health initiatives, leveraging resources, and encouraging innovative strategies that ensure improved health outcomes for all Americans and create healthy communities by improving the conditions in which Americans live, learn, work, pray, and play. While affiliated with OMH in terms of aligning strategies and receiving technical assistance, the NE RHEC and the other regional councils are independent entities separate from OMH and the federal government.
